I also considered using 6061 scrap from work as casting stock. We discard probably 100 lbs a week some pieces are really usable billet too. I actually calculated how much silicon I would have to add to the melt to get it to be considered A356 casting alloy :) which is much better for that sort of thing. I dont recall the castability of 2024 but im pretty sure its better than 6061. HA, I got you beat, I actually do my OWN lost wax castings. I have been seriously considering taking my aging plastic window switch surrounds and using them as direct patterns to cast them out of aluminum. Finish it off with a nice brushed texture and a clearcoat. Also the door handle pieces.
